Subject: Very Interested Folks, May 14 and Updated on May 15 and May 19, 1998
Each of you have expressed an interest in the Cozumel trip.
We need to leave on October 7th in the evening to get to LAX. Continental flight leaves LAX at 1:55 am and flies to Houston then on to Cozumel.
We will get into Cozumel about 12:45 pm (noon).
We load all our bags on a waiting van and we will then proceed to the hotel, check in and then do a check out dive so each of us can get an idea of what this is all about.
I made a deposit for 13 (double occupancy) room reservations Monday, May 11th.
The next deadline was for Continental airlines. I made a deposit on May 18th for 26 tickets. Things are moving right along.
The next deadline is for Delta airlines. I will made a deposit on June 12th for 26 tickets. Things are really moving right along.
Final payment for the land portion of the package is due August 17th. I will need final payment for the LAX to Cozumel and return airfare also by August 17th. I will need final payment for the Boise/Sacramento to LAX and return airfare also by August 17th. If I get a credit card number that will work, too. We are making arrangements for flying from Boise or Sacramento to LAX.
The price on the web page is for double occupancy. Unless you desire a single room we will try to place you with another single of the same gender. Let me know if you are interested in a single and I will find out the estimated extra cost.
One of you asked about other expenses not covered.
Departure tax of about $20 US dollars, due upon departure from Cozumel. I recommend keeping the tax as a separate item in your wallet/purse and don't spend it. They will not let you off the island without paying the tax.
Taxi $ for trip back to airport. I'd say save $7 for the trip.
Drinks, alcoholic and soft.
Gifts, T-shirts, film developing and miscellaneous supplies you forgot to bring.
Taxi $ for trips to other places on the island if you don't want to walk. I'd say a couple of $ each way.
All the meals are provided, but if you want to go into town for refreshments, liquid and/or solid, you will need $.
Tips for all the meals are not included, so you need to make your tip based on the service at the meals, you will need $.
Bring a credit card, just about everyone takes them or bring several ones, fives and tens and just about everyone takes them.
Rental car for the day off.
Trip to the mainland, if desired.
Film and video tapes for cameras. Film processing on the Island.

I will be teaching, at least, an underwater photography class. You will either need to bring your own, rent a camera in Boise or from the dive store in Cozumel. You will have the filmed developed in Cozumel $15 to $17 per roll for 1-hour photo for a roll of 36 exposures. This way we can check both the camera and how well you do. Bill and I will take a roll of film on each and every dive from the boat so about 10 rolls total. So basically there will be ample opportunity to take photos under the supervision of experienced underwater photographers.
We recommend a 3 mm suit to keep the chill off, the sun burn down and the scrapes to a minimum.
We recommend a tube sausage, emergency ribbon and whistle.
We recommend a book on Cozumel. There are several. I can provide references or actually order one for you.
We also recommend that you bring your own dive gear or rent from your local dive store. I will be offering a pre trip pool session to work out any pre trip jitters or to try out that new regulator, etc.
Your own dive computer works the best or if you don't have one purchases should be considered or rentals are available. The divemasters on the boat give you more freedom if you show up with a computer and if you use it to dive with.
Typically the first dive of the day will be deep (80 to 100 feet deep) and the next shallow (40 to 60 feet deep) depending on location. There are some great wall dives in Cozumel and some terrific "famous" drift diving. I personally enjoy the drift diving. You enter the water, descend, drift, then ascend, make a safety stop at 15 feet for 3 minutes, then come up to the surface and the boat is there, waiting for you because it also drifted watching your bubbles.
I will keep you updated as new things come up.
