ADVANCED EANx DIVER


IANTD Course Costs and Specific Details

A. PURPOSE

1. This program is designed to extend the diver's knowledge in the use of EANx for recreational diving. It further develops diving skills and provides a greater understanding of the EANx concept of diving.

2. The program employs EANx mixes from 21% to a maximum of 50%.

B. PREREQUISITES

1. Certified as an IANTD EANx Diver and IANTD Deep Air Diver with 15 Open Water dives or show proof of experience as a Deep Air Diver with 50 logged dives including 10 dives between 90 fsw (27 msw) and 130 fsw (39 msw) plus completion of pool / shallow open water skills in the IANTD Deep Air Diver program and completion of the IANTD Deep Air Diver written exam with a minimum score of 80%.

2. Must be a minimum of 15 years of age with a parent or guardian authorization or 18 years or older without guardian approval.

C. TEXTS

1. IANTD Advanced EANx Student Manual and Workbook, or equivalent text approved in writing by the Board of Directors. Written approval will be issued by IAND, Inc./IANTD World Headquarters.

D. PROGRAM CONTENT

1. Open water dives - 120 minutes - If combined with a Deep Air Program, the total dive time for both programs is 160 minutes to be included within 4 to 6 dives, even if the time and skill requirements are met earlier 4 actual dives must be made with 2 between 100 fsw (30 msw) and 130 fsw (39 msw). If combined with a deep air program 4 dives must be made between 100 fsw (30 msw) and 130 fsw (39 msw).

2. Students are taught the use of EANx mixtures from 21% to a maximum of 40% for diving, staying. EANx mixtures in the range of 41% to a maximum of 50% are used to teach the fundamentals of safety and decompression stops.

E. EQUIPMENT

1. A safety or decompression gas cylinder (if used) rigged as either a pony or stage bottle. All gas cylinders must be oxygen clean and oxygen serviceable where needed.

F. PROGRAM LIMITS

1. No more than 4 students per instructor in water, with the use of IANTD Divemasters this may be increased to 8 maintaining a student to Divemaster ratio of 2 to 1.

2. All dives must be on EANx (max. 40%) and a higher EANx (max. 50%) may be used at the decompression or safety stops.

3. The appropriate safety stops or required stops are to be performed.

G. WATERSKILLS DEVELOPMENT

1. In the Advanced EANx Program a minimum of 120 minutes of pool or confined water training is required and must be completed prior to open water dives.

2. Demonstrate proficiency in a variety of dive techniques and employ precision buoyancy control.

3. Swim 45 feet (15 meters) without breathing, while slowly exhaling and without a mask. Commence gas sharing and swim for 3 minutes then replace and clear mask.

4. On an open water dive, demonstrate dive planning abilities, thus avoiding CNS exposure risk.

5. Perform a gas sharing ascent on the alternate second stage.

6. Perform valve shutdowns on each dive.

7. Deploy lift bag 2 times, using it as an ascent platform.

8. Demonstrate a safe attitude and awareness to the instructor's satisfaction.

9. At a depth greater than 20 fsw (6 msw) do a equipment removal and replacement.

10. Surface removal and replacement of SCUBA gear.

11. Demonstrate acceptable navigation / orientation abilities.

12. In an area where a depth is attainable beyond the planned depth, evaluate that the student has the discipline not to exceed the dive plan.

13. Demonstrate accident management / control techniques as described in text.

14. If entering the program based on previous experience complete the IANTD Deep Air Diver waterskills.
