EANx DIVER
A. PURPOSE
1. This program is designed to provide recreational divers with a safer breathing medium for enjoying dives in the 40 to 130 fsw (12 to 39 msw) depth range. The diver may elect to dive the "mix" on EANx tables or dive conservatively using their dive computers, or air tables, with an added safety margin. The IANTD EANx Diver certification may be taught as a single program or combined with a variety of the IANTD Advanced or Specialty Diver programs.
2. The program covers the use of EANx mixes in the range of 21% to a maximum of 40%.
B. PREREQUISITES
1. Upon completion of class room segment of an Open Water class, Instructors are encouraged to include EANx diver in the Open Water program.
2. Must be a minimum of 15 years of age with a parent or guardian authorization, 12 for junior diver certification, or 18 years or older without guardian approval.
C. TEXTS
1. IANTD Enriched Air Nitrox Student Manual & Workbook, or equivalent text approved in writing by the Board of Directors. Written approval will be issued by IAND, Inc./IANTD World Headquarters.
D. PROGRAM CONTENT
1. Program covers all EANx mixes from 21% to a maximum of 40%, emphasizing the use of EAN 32 and EAN 36.
2. All divers must perform two dives on an EANx mixture of between 24 and 40%.
E. PROGRAM LIMITS
1. Dives will not be conducted to depths that exceed the student's previous qualification and may not exceed a maximum depth of 130 fsw ± 10 fsw (39 msw ± 3 msw).
2. Appropriate safety stops will be made.
F. CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1. A diver completing only the lecture portion of the EANx program will receive a wall certificate. When the diver logs the two (2) open water dives, and is signed off by an IANTD Instructor, the IANTD EANx Diver card will then be issued.
G. WATERSKILLS DEVELOPMENT
1. On open water dives, the instructor may elect to use the applicable EANx tables or plan the dives as if air were used, thus capitalizing on the maximum physiological safety factor.
2. Students must develop a dive plan appropriate for the mixes being used on both dives.
3. Dives to be supervised by either an instructor or IANTD Divemaster. If the dive is with a fixed bottom depth that does not exceed the selected mix maximum depth it is not necessary for the supervisor to be in the water as this is a non water skill program. If the bottom is not fixed or one that has a maximum depth exceeding the partial pressure limits of the mix, the dives must be supervised.
4. Open water dive #1 on EAN 24 through EAN 40.
5. Open water dive #2 on EAN 24 through EAN 40.
6. It is required that EANx be used on both dives.
