OPEN WATER INSTRUCTOR DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
A. PURPOSE
1. This program is designed to train qualified IANTD Dive Masters, who are not already Scuba Instructors, to teach IANTD Recreational Diving Programs.
2. This program is offered only to IANTD Divers with outstanding experience and knowledge.
3. This individual may teach Open Water recreational programs. Once they have taught 2 OW courses, 2 Advanced OW courses and 3 EANx courses they may teach Deep Air, Advanced EANx and Dive Master in addition to all their Open Water Programs.
B. PREREQUISITES
1. Certified as IANTD Divemaster.
2. Log or proof of 125 dives, 50 of which must be a combination of Deep Air dives between 90 fsw (27 msw) and 130 fsw (39 msw) and Advanced EANx dives with at least 25 dives on EANx or breathing mixtures other than air.
3. Must have assisted in one of each of the following IANTD certification programs: Open Water Diver, Advanced Open Water Diver, EANx Diver, Deep Air Diver, and Advanced EANx Diver prior to being certified at the instructor level.
4. Minimum 18 years of age.
5. Must be current in CPR and First Aid plus qualified in SCUBA Rescue and an Oxygen Provider.

IANTD EANx Diver Student Manual & Workbook, IANTD EANx Instructor Manual, IANTD Standards and Procedures Manual, IANTD Open Water Diver Student Manual, Approved Advanced Open Water Diver text, IANTD Deep Air Diver Student Workbook, IANTD Advanced EANx Student Manual and Workbook, IANTD Facility Manual, IANTD General Program Information and Outline or equivalent texts approved in writing by the Board of Directors. Written approval will be issued by IAND, Inc./IANTD World Headquarters.
D. PROGRAM CONTENT
1. A seven day program directing the Instructor candidate to the methods and techniques of training IANTD Divers.
E. PROGRAM LIMITS
1. Same as for the IANTD Advanced EANx Diver program.
F. CERTIFICATION RENEWAL
1. Teach a minimum of 2 IANTD EANx Diver programs annually, or co-teach 3 IANTD EANx Diver programs in Active Teaching Status.
G. WATERSKILLS DEVELOPMENT
1. Swim 1,200 feet (360 meters) in under 10 minutes.
2. Swim in mask snorkel and fins, 1,800 feet (540 meters) in under 16 minutes.
3. Wearing SCUBA snorkel on the surface for 1,500 feet (450 meters) within 15 minutes.
4. Ditch SCUBA make an ESA then swim 30 feet (9 meters) from the point of ditching SCUBA take 3 breaths surface dive swim to and don SCUBA then manual (either simulated or actual) gas share for 300 feet (90 meters) maintaining a minimum swim pace of 75 feet (23 meters) a minute.
5. Swim under water in skin diving equipment for 75 feet (23 meters) then, without surfacing, don SCUBA equipment, surface and swim on the surface using snorkel for 600 feet (180 meters). Swim on back for 300 feet (90 meters) followed by removal of SCUBA and using it as a surfboard type platform and swim an additional 300 feet (90 meters).
6. Swim underwater in SCUBA for 1,500 feet (450 meters) in under 16 minutes.
7. Perform valve shutdowns and regulator switches simulating equipment failure in under 1 minute.
8. Deploy lift bag in less than 1½ minutes.
9. Demonstrate all skills taught in Deep Air and Advanced EANx Diver programs plus other open water skills as assigned by the IT.
10. Demonstrate proficiency in illustrating and teaching water skills in IANTD programs as per assignments given by IT.
11. Complete all skills as required for Instructor status per CMAS or RSTC Instructors.
12. Complete open water teaching skills for Deep Air or Advanced EANx Diver program on at least one dive and demonstrate other open water teaching skills on a second dive per assignment given by IT.
13. Without a mask, swim while simulating an out of air situation for 60 feet (20 meters), then commence sharing gas via alternate second stage for 300 feet (90 meters).
14. Demonstrate the ability to use malfunctioning equipment as follows: with SCUBA units placed 40 feet (12 meters) apart swim to the first unit which is to have the non return valve removed from the second stage. Take at least three breaths from it, swim to the second unit which will have a dislocated diaphragm and take at least three breaths from it. Swim to a third unit which will be adjusted to give a rapid free flow when turned on and breathe from this unit for at least three breaths. If the candidate surfaces, they will be allowed up to three additional attempts.
15. Perform a SCUBA bailout.
