PREFACE

The IAND, Inc./IANTD Standards and Procedures are promulgated for the guidance of IANTD Divemasters, Supervisors, Instructors and Instructor Trainers. These Standards are intended to be updated annually based on recommendations by the Board of Advisors (BOA), Licensee Directors and the Board of Directors. Recommendations from the BOA are due by 1 March each year.

Instructors wishing to input recommendations on Standards may do so by addressing a letter to the chairperson of the BOA and it will be forwarded to all BOA members for their consideration. These suggestions should be sent to the BOA no later than 1 January to insure adequate review by the BOA. They are then reviewed and inputted by the Licensees by 15 April and then forwarded to the BOD for final approval and implementation by June 15. The BOD and Licensees reserve the right of final authority on Standards and Procedures, with all revisions approved by the BOD.

These Standards and Procedures criteria must be met for a program to be a sanctioned IAND, Inc./IANTD activity:

• All prerequisites must be met and documented.
• Approved texts must be issued to students and used throughout the program.
• Students must keep the approved texts after program completion.
• All lectures must be completed.
• All confined water skill training sessions must be completed prior to open water training sessions. Confined water defined as a pool or protected water with maximum depth of 20 ft. for Recreational programs and 40 ft. for Technical programs
• All open water skill training sessions and dives must be completed.
• All equipment specified must be used by the students throughout the program.
• All program limits must be complied with.
• All certification requirements must be met.

• All IANTD Instructors and Divemasters involved in Diver Training programs and Dive Leadership programs/certifications are considered as representatives of IANTD regardless of agency affiliation or program.
• All instructors and Divemasters must have IANTD insurance or show proof of insurance or present Financial Assumption of Risk of a minimum of one million US dollars, releasing IAND, Inc./IANTD, its officers and representatives from financial risk.

Instructors and Divemasters not complying with the above requirements are considered in violation of IANTD Standards and Procedures. Certification will not be awarded to students not trained to these IANTD Standards and Procedures.

Licensees, facilities, Instructor Trainers and Instructors who cannot comply with any section of the IANTD Standards and Procedures, or have a specialized need to present material otherwise, must obtain a written waiver from the IAND, Inc./IANTD World Headquarters before teaching the program.
