Am responsible for evaluating the dietary needs of diabetics.
Make recommendations as to their individual dietary intake on daily basis, participate in multi-disciplinary planning meetings, do medical charting and prepare reports as needed.
Do quality assurance and serve as a resource person to nursing, nurse practitioners and others as needed.

Am responsible for evaluating the dietary needs of residents at the State Veterans Home, Veteran's Hospital Extended Care Unit and patients in the hospital. Make recommendations as to their individual dietary intake on daily basis, participate in multi-disciplinary planning meetings, do medical charting and prepare reports as needed. Participate on the VAMC Hospice Committee, do quality assurance and serve as a resource person to nursing, nurse practitioners and others as needed. Prepare reports for the Idaho State Veteran's Home, assist with or prepare and present inservice education for their food service department.
Planned and implemented, statewide, a Diabetes Control Program in conjunction with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). I coordinated statewide diabetes related activities with The American Diabetes Association, Idaho affiliate, seven statewide Public Health Districts, and other organizations and agencies. I supervised diabetes surveillance and data analysis activities with the assistance of a senior research analyst. A statewide Diabetes Advisory Board (coalition) of Physicians, Certified Diabetes Educators, Nurses and other professionals working or concerned with diabetes, was developed. Program design, coordination, implementation and evaluation were part of my responsibilities.
I did grant re-applications and prepared reports for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Bureau of Health Promotion. Other position activities included writing requests for proposals, contracts, bidding out contracts, contract monitoring, assisting with newsletter preparation, planning conferences, workshops and trainings, and writing fact sheets and news releases with the assistance of the public relations person in our bureau. I was responsible for preparing a yearly budget and developing budget requests and changes. In this capacity, I also provided consultation, quality assurance, technical, and training assistance for diabetes education services throughout the state.
I set up statewide coalition meetings, made arrangements for national TeleVideo conferences, participated in monthly telephone national Diabetes Control Program conferences, prepared materials for publication and dissemination and served as a state representative at CDC's bi-annual Division of Diabetes Translation Conferences. CDC asked me to present information on our data analysis at one of the national meetings. I also attended the 1996 Annual Chronic Disease Conference in Phoenix, AZ.
During this position, I also worked with local focus groups, and set-up and assisted in the design and completion of statewide nutrition and diabetes surveys. I served on CDC's focus group to determine educational needs and methods for the National Diabetes Education Program (NDEP) being implemented in 1997.

Planned, developed, designed, coordinated, evaluated, and implemented a statewide nutrition education program titled Idaho's Partners in Health Through Nutrition. This program was funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In this position, I developed and coordinated a statewide nutrition education campaign.
A statewide coalition was set-up and meetings were held semi-annually with this steering group. Provided consultation, quality assurance, technical, and training assistance in nutrition education services. Worked through contracts with seven state Public Health Districts to facilitate development of local nutrition steering committees in each district. Performed ongoing needs assessments in community interest and materials and educational needs to meet the changing needs of community organizations, agencies from the public and private sectors and the general population.
I worked with a bureau public relations specialist in several media methods including television, radio and printed materials. Several television one minute nutrition promotion advertisements were produced as well as posters, newsletters, table tents and other educational materials. I conducted a Dietary Practices Survey to determine need for and level of education of Idaho residents on topics addressed by this program. This was a five year grant sponsored by CDC. Grant funding ended and this position was terminated.
Was a private consultant under contract to the following six businesses/facilities in Sacramento, California:
Responsible for planning and monitoring dietary support for the food service supervisor, menu planning and monitoring, on-site patient consultations, individual diet recommendations, treatment plans, in-service presentations, on food safety and sanitation, general procedures, and diet related topics. Also performed quality assurance monitoring, development, analysis and reports, and did protocol review.
Provided direct client nutrition services to families, homes and agencies. Did assessments, diet analysis, evaluations, reports, and consultations for the developmentally disabled and those providing services to this population.
Provided dietary support for the food service supervisor, on-site nutrition assessments, nutrition and dietary recommendations, developed patient treatment plans, and did menu monitoring, in-service presentations, procedure and protocol review. In this position, I also provided technical assistance to nutrition providers, classes on various nutrition topics, and direct patient consultations on special diets.
Duties included counseling patients referred by physicians on dietary concerns ncluding weight loss, lowering blood lipids, diabetes, etc.
Provided direct observation and supervision of Nutrition Education Assistants. Did follow up review of records and provided continuing education training for Nutrition Assistants. Contract ended.
Provided direct client consultation and education related to diet for doctor referred pregnant diabetic women. Participated in conference presentations.
Worked with clients with developmental disabilities, case managers, community nurses and organizations, licensed vendors, and other agencies that work with this population. I was required to provided in-service and nutrition education for personnel in homes operated by the state, private industry and for the public. Did menu reviews, on-site inspections and provided special diets for clients.
I conducted reviews of new licensing standards and provided input at two sessions with department surveyors. I briefly also served as State Nutrition Consultant for the Arizona State WIC Department. During that time I set-up a statewide conference for WIC nutritionists and aides.
Duties included hiring, training and supervising 12-23 para-professional aides for a two county area. Taught a 90 hour on-the-job training for new aides once to twice a year and provided weekly in-service trainings. Served as contact liaison for community agencies and many Inter-Agency Action Councils.
Also prepared monthly and annual reports, produced a newsletter and served as a resource person for other District Extension Home Economists. In 1984, I set-up, prepared, and taught an off-campus graduate level advanced nutrition seminar (one and two credits) for the University of Idaho in Boise, Idaho. During 1985, I served on the District Tenure and the County Extension Agent Hiring Committees.
Duties included preparing, teaching, grading regular credit nutrition classes, one and two credit, and vocational food service courses in two different departments. Taught food service courses, Food Service Management I and II, for school lunch managers and workers, and Institution (hospital) Food Service personnel. The successful completion of the class provided students with a State Food Service Workers Certificate.
Worked as a WIC Nutritionist, screening and certifying clients, providing WIC staff and client nutrition education, wrote a monthly newsletter, selected appropriate nutrition education materials and served as the district consultant for the Maternal-Infant Care Clinic, Crippled Children's Clinic and the public.
Designed and implemented a nutrition education program with the School Food Service Program. Surveyed district school teachers for needs, purchased materials for central distribution to 22 participating schools, provided nutrition education programs for classrooms and trained food service managers in schools to participate in nutrition education activities in those schools.
Wrote a nutrition education manual with activities involving teachers and School Food Service Managers at the elementary school level. Other duties included evaluating materials, providing in-service training for Food Service personnel and teachers and managing the program budget.
Taught two sections of regular credit nutrition course (90 students) and helped with the preparation for and teaching of a laboratory class for nutrition and dietetics majors. Responsible for course content, testing, grading, and records. Worked on several special short-term research projects for the Department of Human Nutrition and Biochemistry.
Duties included development of a technique for and analysis of trace elements in tissue samples. Completed analysis of scientific samples, did calculations, and prepared reports.

COMMUNITY: Serve as a volunteer for the Capital High Swim Team and the Boise YMCA Swim Team. Activities include, timing events, set-up and take-down for swim meets, calling, working in the snack bar and other duties as needed.
