DAN TravelAssist and DAN insurance

With the dive season in full swing, here's a quick reminder for retailers, instructors, customers and students about some of DAN's most popular benefits

This is a good way to remind you and your customers and students that DAN membership and insurance add up to a useful and cost-conscious investment in their overall dive preparedness? Read on.

Q What is DAN TravelAssist?

A It's a medical, travel, personal and legal assistance program benefit that automatically comes with membership in DAN.

Q How does the evacuation work?

A Whether you've signed up as an individual member (US$29) or enrolled in a family membership (US$39), you're eligible for DAN TravelAssist if you're injured at least 50 miles from home.

Just think: for the price of a snorkel you can have worldwide evacuation assistance with DAN. Accidents can happen. For example, should the unthinkable occur and you fracture your leg while vacationing in the Caribbean, with DAN TravelAssist you can save $22,000 or more if you have to be flown to medical assistance. You have up to $100,000 in assistance with DAN TravelAssist.

Q Is evacuation the only benefit of DAN TravelAssist?

A No, though the most well-known benefit, evacuation is just the beginning! DAN TravelAssist, offered through one of the U.S.'s oldest assistance companies, Worldwide Assistance Services Inc., offers a wide range of medical, travel and personal services to DAN members.

Medical Assistance

You can get 24-hour worldwide medical information and assistance, emergency medication, physician referrals, hospital deposits, medical monitoring of your condition or a family member's, as well as pre-trip medical information on health risks and inoculations required through DAN TravelAssist.

Travel Assistance

DAN TravelAssist will provide transportation home for minor children or a traveling companion in the event of your injury, or if you're traveling alone, can provide transportation for your companion to join you, if you're hospitalized for more than seven consecutive days. You can also get visa, passport and inoculation requirements; cultural information; weather conditions; embassy and consular referrals; foreign exchange rates and travel advisories - all through DAN TravelAssist.

Personal Assistance

You can get emergency cash, emergency message transmission, claims assistance, lost document assistance and interpretive and legal help through DAN TravelAssist.

Q How does DAN TravelAssist differ from DAN dive accident insurance?

A Generally, DAN TravelAssist is priced as a part of your DAN membership and helps you handle non-diving emergencies; DAN insurance is priced separately from your membership and covers diving injuries.

Q What is DAN dive accident insurance?

A DAN offers three levels of accident insurance to cover you for diving injuries. DAN insurance is additional to DAN membership: you must purchase DAN dive insurance separately from DAN membership.

For example, an individual membership in DAN is US$29; add to this the purchase of DAN's Master Plan insurance for $35, and you'll pay $64 for both benefits, a small price to pay for the peace of mind you'll get with DAN's comprehensive coverage of dive safety.

Consider this: for the price of a mask, with DAN's Master Plan, you are covered for all in-water injuries and recompression therapy in the event of a diving injury.

Master Plan

If you gash your knee when ascending a dive ladder and require stitches, DAN's Master Plan has you covered.

The Master Plan offers coverage for all covered in-water skin- and scuba diving injuries. In addition, it offers coverage for accidental death and dismemberment; permanent total disability; and accommodations, ticket and lost equipment coverage if you have a diving injury.

The Plus and Standard Plans

The Plus and Standard Plans offer coverage for decompression illness; and the Plus Plan has accidental death and permanent total disability coverage as well.

If you or your customers and students have any questions about DAN membership and insurance, call DAN at 1 800 446-2671 and press 3 to speak to a DAN representative.
